There are five parts of the bicycle that need regular maintenance and inspection, which many people ignore:
- Headsets
Even if the bicycle seems to be well maintained, damage to the headset bearings can often be hidden. They may be corroded by your sweat and may be damaged by rust.
To prevent this, remove the headset, apply a light coat of grease to the sealed bearings, and reassemble.
You can take this time to check your front fork steering for signs of pressure or damage. Be sure to focus on the place close to the bearing contact.
2.Derailleur cables
Derailleur cables can get snapped and frayed, leaving you with an awkward ride on the road. This is true for older 9-speed and 10-speed Shimano derailleur systems. These derailleur cables will continue to bend, displace and weaken with time.
Check the cables for any signs of fraying or kinks,if any, replace immediately. If no signs of damage, dripping some lubricating oil on the cables will help.
3.Pedals
Many cyclists will repair almost all places, but they will always miss their pedals and even install the old pedals on a brand new bicycle.
If your rear hub has continued to make unnatural noises, it is probably too dry or has stones, etc., which needs attention.
Use the correct methods and tools (usually professional wrenches). Before starting, be sure to carefully read the processing technology of your hub, and pay attention not to drop small parts.
Many high-quality brands of hubs have a specified lubricant for that brand of hubs. It is usually best to use the recommended lubricant.
5.Chains
It is important to keep the chain clean and lubricated. At the same time, it is necessary to replace the chain at a certain time, which can avoid a lot of unnecessary troubles!
